General
Most people know about roleplaying games, the ultimate in the “choose your own adventure” fantasy. Traditionally, roleplaying was done in private homes with a group of friends. This method is normally called “table top” roleplaying. Roleplaying this way was made famous by the hilarious Dead Alewives skit. Roleplaying moved online with some of the first chat rooms on AOL. Instead of speaking as their character would, players typed the messages.
This kind of online roleplaying (not to be confused with games like EverQuest or World of Warcraft) remains very similar to its table top origins. Dungeon Masters, Game Masters or Storytellers still control the game and the players set the scenes with their imaginations instead of graphics.
